Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County

The Family Resource Center was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization to help families in our community. We focus on two prevention-based education programs: Parents as Teachers home visiting program for children ages birth to 5-years-old and their parents/caregivers, and the Literacy Council program focused on teaching adult learners (18 and older) to improve literacy and communication, both written and verbal.  

Your baby was born to learn and as your child’s first teacher, you make a difference! Parents as Teachers can help you make that difference. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a home visitation program for Sheboygan County parents which uses research-based information to help you and your baby make the most of the early years. Parents as Teachers is a free, voluntary program that supports parents, answers your questions, increases your parenting skills, and helps provide early detection of any potential developmental delays and health issues in your child. Parents as Teachers is open to Sheboygan County parents who are pregnant with, or parenting a child who is under the age of 12 months. The Literacy Council trains caring, community volunteers to become tutors. Tutors are then matched with an adult learner and they meet together once a week in a public place for two hours to work on the students’ personal goals which include: learning English, learning to improve reading or writing skills, applying for jobs, learning to use a computer, getting help towards passing the written driver’s license test, studying for the U.S. Citizenship test and naturalization interview, learning how to read prescription labels, etc. We are partners with LTC supporting their ESL efforts and provide the citizenship classes at their Sheboygan location.
