Volunteer: Child Visit Monitor

The CVM is a trained volunteer who temporarily looks after the interests of a child who is involved with the court system due to allegations of abuse or neglect. The CVM conducts monthly home visits with the child to gather updates and assesses their needs. This information includes, but is not limited to, their physical living space, educational, medical, social, emotional wellbeing needs, etc. The CVM will send a report to CASA staff upon completion of the visit.

CASA Volunteer Advocates go through an initial training before being sworn in and being assigned a child. Volunteers get to know the child by talking with everyone involved in that child's life including parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers, and others. Volunteers use this information to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them via a monthly report. The recommended commitment is 1 hour per week visiting with the child in addition to taking time to connect with other people in the child's life as stated above.
