Friendly Visitor Volunteers -bring the "gift of friendship" to our patients and their families. Regular visits every week or two really brighten the days of our patients. When you bring a smile to them, hold their hand, talk with them, watch television, play bingo, or take walks with them your gift of time helps offer support and companionship! It is also a comfort to the families to know another caring individual is looking in on them.
We serve hospice patients in various care facilities and in their homes throughout Sheboygan County. This means there is probably a patient close to you. Scheduling is flexible and most volunteers commit to four to eight hours per month. More hours can be done. Scheduling of visits is also flexible to meet your schedule. Please consider giving the gift of your time and presence. You will get so much more in return.
This opportunity will let you practice soft and social skills such as active listening, empathy and conversation. It will also give you experience in a health care environment. Both of which are pluses on a resume. Training is provided at no charge.
Volunteers must be 18 or older with good interpersonal and communication skills. They must have the ability to work independently with indirect supervision and a willingness to help others as a member of the hospice team. Compassus does an in-depth background check.
