Volunteer: Volunteer mentors

We are privileged to serve kids aged 5-18 and their families (foster, adoptive, or biological) who are experiencing or have a history of crises/trauma. Hurting people need hope and the security of healthy relationships that provide safety and trust.  Healing from the inside out can begin within the context of a caring and safe relationship. Pairing kids with a trained mentor and a horse with its own story can help spur the healing process.

We are seeking dedicated mentors to join our volunteer mentor team.  Since the Covid-19 pandemic our client base has risen to the point that we are creating a waiting list for youth in need.  Mentors are needed to get these kids into our programming.  We are a faith-based organization and provide services to women and youth located in Calumet, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Southern Brown, Winnebago, and Monroe counties.

Please consider dedicating some time to an area youth, your contribution will be life changing.

Volunteer: Hospice Compassionate Companions in Port Washington, WI

Allay's Hospice Companions bring comfort to patients and relief to their caregivers by offering a supportive presence, a listening ear, and a helping hand.  When visiting, volunteers may offer to play music or a game, read to the patient, listen to his/her stories and memories, sit with a patient outside or go for a walk, or offer assistance with other non-medical tasks. There are times when volunteers may simply sit quietly while holding one's hand, letting the patient know that he or she is not alone.

Allay's Compassionate Companions profoundly affect the quality of our patients' lives by simply sharing their time. The amount of time you give is flexible and scheduled around your availability. We do take your location into account to assign patient visits that are within or near your own community.

Hospice companions receive training regarding the philosophy of hospice, the role of the volunteer and other staff members, as well as, helpful skills for meaningful visits with hospice patients and their families.

Volunteer and patient safety are our top priority. We follow CDC guidelines & respect the Covid-19 protocols of our partner facilities. At this time, volunteers are asked to complete a self-screening checklist prior to visits, wear a mask during visits and, of course, adhere to standard precautions such as frequent handwashing. Allay will provide the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safe practices can be followed.

Volunteer: Pets with a Purpose - Certified Therapy Dogs & Cats for Hospice Visits in Belgium, WI

One of the most frequent requests made by Allay's hospice patients are for visits from a friendly, certified therapy dog or therapy cat. Therapy animals have the endearing quality of showing unconditional love & affection that brings joy to everyone. They are a remarkable source of comfort & companionship, as well as a welcome distraction from the daily routine for both hospice patients and their families. Contact with furry companions can be especially meaningful to patients who are no longer able to care for their own beloved pet.

Would you be able to help us fulfill some of those requests within your own community?

While many pets provide love and companionship in the home, not all of them have the temperament suited for this type of service. We require all therapy animal teams must have completed training and assessment with a recognized Animal-Assisted Therapy program before visiting hospice patients. (And, the human-half will receive additional training related to hospice visitation.)

If your pet is already certified as a therapy animal, Congratulations! You are already well on your way to joining Allay's Therapy Dog Team.  If your pet has not been through the certification process, we can get you the resources to help you to get started.
