Who We Are
Vision
To create a healthy community through good-food education
Mission
Nourish empowers the community to make wholesome food choices through education and hands-on experiences that demonstrate how to grow, source, cook and enjoy good food.
Values
COMMUNITY: Connecting local resources and residents to one another.
EQUITY: Ensuring equal access to good food.
LOCAL: Passionate about food produced by local farmers.
COLLABORATE: Collaborate with local farmers, volunteers, schools, shelters, and nonprofits for maximum impact.
SUSTAINABILITY: Operating with respect for the precious but limited environmental and financial resources.
EDUCATE: Delivering experiential education in classroom and community gatherings to share good-food knowledge.
EMPOWER: Empowering individuals and families to make informed decisions about the food they grow, purchase or consume.
About Us
Since its inception in 2009, Nourish has supported and promoted local farmers by connecting kids and families in-need to the local food they produce. We believe that supporting local farmers also supports the local economy. Food less traveled reduces our reliance on fossil fuels and emissions while allowing the produce to be picked closer to ripeness. Produce harvested near ripeness also features the best nutrient content. Nourish partners with farms that encourage sustainable farming practices.
Nourish moved to the Miley Barn in Sheboygan Falls at the end of 2018, which is now our office and new Educational Farm location. We built our commercial and teaching kitchens, completed in 2020, to further our impact and increase education opportunities on-site and off-site.
Nourish is a 501(c)(3) non-profit led by Executive Director, Ryan Laswell, and a Board of Directors. Our staff of Good Food People help us deliver good-food programs to the community - come be a part of helping us grow!
What We Do
Farm-to School
Nourish offers programs to school-age children on and off-site in our Good Food Club, focused on our Harvest of the Month education and local, seasonal nutrition education. Whether helping with an on-site field trip, education prep, snack prep, or hands-on learning out at schools and youth sites, join us to shape the next generation of good food eaters!
Farm-to-Community
Cooking classes: A group of community members such as youth groups, families or co-workers join us at Nourish for public or privately booked educational experiences. Support a class hands-on with prep, class support, and light clean-up - and even learn (or teach!) along with us!
Community Dinners and Events: Nourish hosts a variety of events to connect the community to good food and to local producers and vendors, such as through our Community Dinners or Pizza with a Purpose nights! Support prep, buffet or food service, and light clean up to boost our impact with our visiting community members.
Educational Farm
Our Educational Farm in Sheboygan Falls grows different types of food on our property and in three covered hoop houses for us to educate the community about sustainable growing practices. Produce grown (and honey from our bees!) goes directly into our programming, and any excess goes out to our partner organizations and community members. Be a part of it from seed to plate, planting to picking, even weeding, mulching, and more along the way!
Nourish Kitchen
Tying it all together, our kitchen is the core of food prep and all things eating. Nourish hosts cooking events for our programs, cooking classes and workshops, Good Food Club Farm-to-School programming, and brings people together around fresh, local, nutritious food. Join us for food prep, food service, light setup and clean up and help us make good food fun.
Nourish Programs are constantly evaluated and developed based on community need and potential collaborations specific to our mission.
