Sheboygan Rotary Club's ROOTS Program and Sheboygan Area School District have a collaboration project to plant 50 trees at the North High School and Pigeon River Elementary School School on Saturday, May 10th, beginning at 8 a.m. The May 10th event will definitely require volunteers to assist in planting about 50 or so trees on each property – no matter what the weather, gathering on the NE corner of North High School at 8 a.m.
Volunteers should dress for
expected conditions and bring work boots or heavy shoes as mud and digging are
involved. Work gloves also needed along with head gear and if necessary
warm or rain clothing. Volunteers are encouraged - if possible - to
bring garden rakes and shovels which they mark with tape to ensure they get
their gear back at end of event. Wheel barrels also often helpful if anyone can
bring one.. We try to supply bulk of the planting gear but sometimes
volunteers bringing the their own gear supplements what we provide.
We
pre-stage materials, equipment, trees and have holes pre-dug where we want
them. This project will divide volunteers after the demonstration to not
only the North High School property but also Pigeon River School. This planting
effort will probably be done by late morning or early afternoon.
Not essential, but bring
snack or lunch and water bottle. We try to ensure rest room access available at
sites with buildings.
Volunteers should arrive for planting demonstration at or close to 8:00 am. If there are enough volunteers – we will deploy some teams to second site, Pigeon River Grade School, right away and run simultaneous planting events at all sites. We will provide oversight at each site as needed. For questions contact Donna Wendlandt, Rotarian, dwendlandt@sheboygancountyymca.org
